Josh Armstrong

Josh Armstrong is a Lecturer of Contemporary Performance Practice and Artistic Director of Objet-a Creative Studio. His work bridges music/sonic arts, live art, and choreography, with notable collaborations at venues like Cryptic (Glasgow), Opera North, and international festivals. He directs works by composers such as Gavin Bryars and Tan Dun, and has created productions across Europe and Australia.

Education includes Experimental Theater at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and Contemporary Performance Practice at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. His research focuses on interdisciplinary performance, ecologies, postmodern choreography, and food’s role in performance.

In 2016, he received the Jerwood Opera Writing Fellowship. He edits the BECOMING series, including becoming-Botanical and the upcoming becoming-Feral. His creative-research practice emphasizes cross-disciplinary collaboration and innovative performance formats.
