Saburo Teshigawara (b.1953) is a Professor at the Department of Expression Studies, College of Contemporary Psychology, St. Paul’s (Rikkyo) University, Japan. He is renowned for founding the artistic collective KARAS in 1985 and creating internationally acclaimed dance performances like Para-Dice. His work integrates choreography with visual arts, emphasizing sculptural spatial compositions and kinetic dynamics.
His research interests span movement theory, site-specific performance design, and interdisciplinary collaborations with musicians and visual artists. Since 2006, he teaches movement theory and leads workshops, while maintaining global creative engagements through commissions by institutions like the Paris Opera.
Key educational initiatives include the 'Dance of Air' project at New National Theatre Tokyo and the S.T.E.P. mentorship program. He served as a Rolex Mentor & Protégé Arts Initiative mentor (2004). His work transcends dance, impacting visual arts through exhibitions and film collaborations.
