Josephine Durkin

Josephine Durkin serves as an Associate Professor of Art at East Texas A&M University within the Department of Art, College of Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts. She teaches 3-D Design and Sculpture while serving on the graduate faculty where she rotates responsibility for Graduate Seminar instruction.

Durkin's artistic practice centers on creating drawings, videos, sculptures, and large-scale interactive installations that personify objects to suggest human gestures and relationships. Her methodology involves transforming studio residue from sculptural processes into digital source material for drawings and paintings. This interdisciplinary approach bridges physical manipulation with conceptual exploration of object-human dynamics.

Her exhibition record demonstrates significant national and international recognition, with solo shows at Dallas Contemporary, Sam Houston State University, Lawndale Art Center, and The Front Gallery, alongside group exhibitions spanning from Los Angeles Center for Digital Art to Kunstraum Innsbruck in Austria. Durkin has engaged academic communities through visiting artist positions at Yale-affiliated institutions and participated in notable forums including NPR's 'The Front Row' and Texelectronica symposium.
