Joseph Sassoon is Professor of History and Political Economy at Georgetown University's Center for Contemporary Arab Studies, where he also serves as Director. He holds the al-Sabah Chair in Politics and Political Economy of the Arab World and is a Senior Associate Member at St Antony’s College, Oxford.
His research centers on the political economy and history of the Arab world, with a strong focus on Iraq, authoritarianism, and forced migration. He has published extensively on the Ba’th Party, Saddam Hussein’s regime, and the displacement of Iraqis after 2003.
