Hanan Hammad holds the Arab-American Educational Foundation Chair in Modern Arab History at the University of Houston, where she directs the AAEF Center of Arab Studies. Her research examines gender, labor, and popular culture in the modern Arab world. She received her PhD from University of Texas at Austin.
Research focuses include working-class experiences in interwar Egypt and socio-cultural interactions between Arabs and Iranians. Current projects investigate childhood in modern Egypt and Iraqi experiences under Saddam Hussein.
