Dr Joseph Owen is a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton's Faculty of Arts and Humanities, specializing in interdisciplinary studies of literature, politics and place attachment. His research examines pride, civic engagement and decision-making in urban contexts through projects including Feeling Towns and Pathways to Health. Owen serves as specialist policy officer for Public Policy Southampton and co-directs the Centre for Modern and Contemporary Writing.
Research explores relationships between place identity, policy implementation, and community engagement methodologies. Publications demonstrate consistent focus on qualitative approaches to understanding 'pride in place' concepts in urban policy frameworks.
Current doctoral supervision includes work on English literature. As co-director of the Centre for Modern and Contemporary Writing, Owen fosters academic collaborations examining literary representations of place and sovereignty.
