Joseph Mansky is an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Oklahoma’s Department of English. His research focuses on early modern literature, Shakespeare, law and literature, and the history of political thought. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley (2018) and a B.A. from Cornell University. Prior to OU, he taught at UC Berkeley, City College of New York (CUNY), and Bard College.
His first book, Libels and Theater in Shakespeare’s England: Publics, Politics, Performance (2023), examines libel circulation in early modern drama and public discourse. He is currently working on a second book titled Political Representation: A Literary History, 1558-1651, exploring the rhetorical roots of political representation. His articles appear in peer-reviewed journals like Review of English Studies, ELH, PMLA, and Shakespeare Quarterly.
Prof. Mansky has received grants and fellowships from institutions including the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Folger Shakespeare Library, and the Huntington Library. His work bridges literary analysis with historical contexts, emphasizing the intersections of politics, performance, and legal frameworks in early modern texts.
