Joseph J. Harper serves as an Associate Lecturer in the Social Work program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, joining the faculty in 2021. His extensive professional background includes leadership roles in mental health services, particularly in forensic and correctional settings. He brings over three decades of practical experience in social work administration and clinical practice to his teaching role.

Professional Experience & Research Interests: Mr. Harper's expertise lies in forensic social work, mental health services in correctional settings, and administrative leadership in social service organizations. His career spans child welfare services, employee assistance programs, outpatient mental health services, and correctional mental health administration. He has particular expertise in forensic patient services and has served as an expert witness regarding forensic populations.
Professional Contributions: He maintains active membership in the National Association of Social Workers, having served as First Vice-President of the Illinois Chapter and Chair of the statewide Political Action Committee. He has presented extensively on forensic social work topics at conferences organized by NASW-IL, the National Commission on Correctional Health Care, and the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers. Additionally, he serves on the clinical examination committee with the Association of Social Work Boards, contributing to exam development activities.
