Joseph Gyourko is the Martin Bucksbaum Professor of Real Estate, Finance, and Business Economics & Public Policy at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. He directs the Zell/Lurie Real Estate Center and serves as a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). His career spans 1984-present at Wharton, including multiple chairperson roles (2007-2013, 1999-2003) and directorship since 1998.

Research focuses on housing markets, real estate economics, urban economics, and Chinese property markets. His work examines regulatory impacts on housing supply, mortgage default dynamics, and investment implications of real estate collateral value. Recent publications include analyses of Chinese land price volatility (2012), collateral channel effects (2013), and U.S. foreclosure crisis studies (2015). Awards include Wharton's Teaching Excellence Reward (2018) and Excellence in Teaching Awardee (2010).
