Joseph Gay is a Practicing Faculty member and Adjunct Professor at St. Mary’s University School of Law. He currently serves as Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney and Chief of the Criminal Appellate Section for the Western District of Texas. His legal career includes 18 years as an adjunct professor, teaching Legal Research and Writing, Torts (Master of Jurisprudence Program), Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and Organized Crime.

Research & Expertise: Focuses on criminal law, appellate advocacy, and legal education. His professional experience includes authoring hundreds of appellate briefs and arguing over 100 cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Professional Contributions: Serves as a frequent instructor at the National Advocacy Center and presents at legal education seminars for the San Antonio Bar Association and Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit. Leads the Criminal Appellate Section within the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
