Dr. Joseph Fort is a Senior Lecturer in Music and Director of Performance at King’s College London, serving as College Organist & Director of the Chapel Choir since 2015. He holds a PhD from Harvard University and is a dual expert in 18th-century musicology and choral conducting. His roles include overseeing weekly chapel services, mentoring students, and leading the acclaimed Choir of King’s College London in international performances.
Education: PhD in Music from Harvard University (2015), studies at the Royal Academy of Music (Associate member), and Emmanuel College, Cambridge (organ scholar).
Research focuses on Haydn’s minuets and their connection to 18th-century dance, with a forthcoming monograph from Cambridge University Press. He also explores performance practice, music theory, and the interplay between music and dance in historical contexts. His work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, blending musicology with somatic and choreographic analysis.
Recent work includes acclaimed recordings with Delphian Records, BBC Radio broadcasts, and festival conducting engagements worldwide. He co-leads the 'Brain Waves' project exploring creative activity for brain injury patients. Teaching responsibilities include heading King’s Music Department’s performance program and supervising postgraduate research.
