Joseph Davidson is Associate Professor in the School of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Oregon State University. His research develops robotic systems for agricultural applications including fruit harvesting, precision pruning, and orchard management.
He directs the Intelligent Machines and Materials Laboratory which investigates soft robotics, manipulation control, and sensing for complex environments. Current projects include robotic apple harvesting, underwater manipulation systems, and variable-rate orchard management.
Dr. Davidson's team integrates computer vision, machine learning, and novel actuator designs to create field-deployable agricultural robots. His work has been supported by USDA, ONR, and industry partners.
He mentors graduate students in robotics and mechanical engineering, focusing on system integration challenges in agricultural and underwater environments.
