Professor Joseph D. Straubhaar is the Amon G. Carter Centennial Professor of Communications at the University of Texas at Austin’s College of Communication. He holds joint appointments in the Department of Journalism and Media Studies and the Radio-TV-Film program. His research focuses on global media systems, digital divides, and Latin American television production. He has directed key programs such as the Latino and Latin American Media Studies Program (2012–2018) and the Center for Brazilian Studies (2003–2006).

His publications include landmark texts like Television In Latin America (2013) and World Television from Global to Local (2007). Upcoming work explores Netflix’s impact on Latin American content. His Media Now textbook (10th ed.) remains a core media studies resource.
