Dr. Joseph D. Mancias is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School and a radiation oncologist at the Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center. His clinical focus is on gastrointestinal cancers, particularly pancreatic cancer, and he leads an independent laboratory at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute investigating pancreatic cancer biology. His research combines biochemical, proteomic, and gene-editing techniques to uncover mechanisms of therapeutic resistance and develop novel treatments.
Education: MD-PhD from Weill Cornell Medical College and Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences. Residency in Radiation Oncology via the Harvard Radiation Oncology Program, followed by a research fellowship at Harvard Medical School and Dana-Farber.
Research interests include autophagy pathways, iron metabolism in cancer cells, and translational approaches to improve pancreatic cancer therapies. The Mancias Lab employs advanced modeling and mass spectrometry-based proteomics to study disease mechanisms.
Lab activities include mentoring postdoctoral fellows and technicians, such as Dr. Myungsun Shin (joint with the Gygi Lab) and Dr. Thuy Nguyen. The lab actively seeks postdoctoral researchers through funded fellowship opportunities.
