Joseph Brock is a Lecturer and Group Leader at the Research School of Biology, Australian National University (ANU). He works at the intersection of structural biology, synthetic biology, and membrane protein research, focusing on understanding how integral membrane proteins contribute to human health and disease. His group applies Cryo-Electron Microscopy to study these proteins at near-atomic resolution, while also engineering yeast systems for biosensors, nanobody production, and enhanced protein secretion.
- PhD in Biological Chemistry from ANU (2007-2012)
- Postdoctoral research at Karolinska Institute (2013-2017) and Stockholm University (2018)
His research spans multiple themes:
- Structural basis of drug resistance in Malaria parasites
- Mechanistic studies of GPCR signaling through resolvins
- Engineering yeast for synthetic biology applications
- Investigating membrane transporters in endometriosis
Recent publications highlight his work on protein secretion optimization in yeast and multidrug resistance transporters in Candida albicans. These studies reflect his dual focus on fundamental structural biology and translational synthetic biology applications.
- Current affiliations include ARC Centre of Excellence in Synthetic Biology and CCeMMP (ARC Centre for Cryo-EM of membrane proteins)
