معرفی
Joe Brock is a Research Fellow at the Division of Biomedical Science & Biochemistry, The Australian National University. His research focuses on membrane proteins and synthetic biology, employing Cryo-Electron Microscopy to elucidate protein structures in health and disease contexts. He specializes in understanding drug resistance mechanisms, enzyme dynamics, and protein engineering for applications like bio-sensors and high-yield protein production in yeast.
Education: PhD in Biological Chemistry (Structural investigation of human glutathione transferase omega 1) from ANU (2007–2012). Affiliations include the ARC Centre of Excellence in Synthetic Biology and CCeMMP (ARC Centre for Cryo-EM of membrane proteins). He supervises research students and leads projects in protein secretion optimization, malaria parasite sugar import mechanisms, and bioengineering.
Research interests span structural biology, membrane protein dynamics, and synthetic biology applications. Key projects include engineering yeast for biosensor development and enhancing protein secretion pathways. His work bridges fundamental structural insights with applied biotechnological solutions.
Key collaborations involve structural studies on ABC transporters, antiporter pH sensing, and enzyme specificity. Current grants focus on protein secretion in yeast, malaria parasite biology, and ancestral enzyme engineering for sustainable fat products.
