Dr. Joseph Abunassar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at Queen's University, specializing in the Division of Cardiology. He holds a Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Ottawa (2008), an MSc in Patient Safety and Quality Improvement from the University of Toronto (2015), and completed fellowship training in Cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
His clinical expertise spans General Cardiology, Cardiac Imaging, and Interventional Cardiology. He has contributed research to journals such as the American Journal of Cardiology and JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions. Key initiatives include launching a percutaneous PFO closure program for cryptogenic stroke and establishing a regional SCAD referral clinic. He is actively involved in Queen’s Interventional Cardiology Research Group.
Dr. Abunassar serves as Co-Chair of the Department of Medicine Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Committee and coordinates clinical rotations in the cardiac catheterization laboratory.
