Gareth Morgan

Gareth Morgan, MD is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics-Cardiology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus School of Medicine. He serves as a Congenital Interventional Cardiologist with clinical appointments at UCHealth Adult Congenital Heart Disease and Children's Hospital Colorado. His professional affiliations include membership in the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health, General Medical Council, Medical Protection Society, British Congenital Cardiac Association, Association of European Pediatric Cardiology, Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, Pediatric Interventional Cardiology Early Career Society, and the American Heart Association.

Dr. Morgan's research focuses on pediatric and congenital interventional cardiology, particularly innovative percutaneous treatments for congenital heart defects. His work emphasizes reducing radiation exposure and contrast use during procedures while improving outcomes for complex congenital heart disease patients. He has published extensively on pulmonary valve interventions, stent technologies, and advanced imaging techniques for congenital heart disease.

His clinical interests center on the treatment of congenital heart disease through minimally invasive procedures (cardiac catheterization), with a specialty in complex interventions for pulmonary valve disease, pulmonary vein stenosis, and Fontan circulation management. Dr. Morgan follows an integrated approach to congenital heart disease that combines fetal, pediatric, and adult congenital heart disease care.

Dr. Morgan has received the Madeleine Steel Fellowship from the British Cardiac Society (2008) and has been active in developing new techniques and technologies in congenital interventional cardiology. His recent work has focused on virtual reality applications for patient screening, fusion imaging to reduce radiation exposure, and novel stent and valve technologies for complex congenital heart disease.

He has been instrumental in several multicenter trials including the Alterra Adaptive Prestent study for pulmonary regurgitation and the ASSURED Trial for atrial septal defect closure. His educational background includes MB ChB and BAO from The Queen's University of Belfast, UK (1999), MPhil from Queen's University of Belfast (2006), residency in Pediatric Cardiology (2004), and fellowships at Hospital for Sick Children, Canada and University Hospitals Bristol.
