Joseph A. Ross is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy and affiliated with the Peace, War, and Defense curriculum at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds a Ph.D. in American History (2018), an M.A. in European History (2007), and a B.A. in History and Philosophy (2005). His research focuses on war crimes trials, international human rights law, and the ethical dimensions of historical events like the Nuremberg Trials. He has developed interdisciplinary courses on conspiracy theories, gun policy debates, and global justice. Ross serves on the Advisory Board of the Conflict Management Initiative and has received grants from the Mellon Foundation Initiative and UNC’s Summer School.
His current projects include an immersive role-playing simulation of the Nuremberg Trials and a study on Americans’ post-Nuremberg perspectives on human rights. Ross has also served as a Road Scholar for the North Carolina Humanities Council, delivering programs on historical ethics.
