Josep Mercader Barceló

Josep Mercader Barceló is an interim Associate Professor at the Department of Fundamental Biology and Health Sciences, University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). With a PhD in Biochemistry (2008), his career spans academic research, corporate innovation, and clinical leadership. He co-founded Foners Veterinary Clinic (2017) and directs the UIB Molecular Biology and Global Health research group (since 2021).

• Research focuses on molecular mechanisms of obesity, diabetes, and drug/nutrient interactions
• Led nutrigenetic test development (Metigentiy) and MSC isolation device design
• Active in teaching biochemistry, enzymology, and molecular biology
