Josep Choma

Josep Choma is an Associate Professor of Architecture at Clemson University, where he directs the Master of Science in Architecture program. He is also a part-time instructor at The Cooper Union and was previously a Visiting Associate Professor at MIT and a NCCR Digital Fabrication Researcher in Residence at ETH Zurich.

• Education: Bachelor of Architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (2009), graduate studies at MIT in design and computation, and PhD in Architecture from the University of Cambridge (UK), as a Cambridge International Scholar.

His research focuses on material innovation, unconventional construction methods, and the role of geometry in sustainable architecture. He explores topics like foldable composites, lightweight shelters, thin formwork for concrete, and natural fiber textiles. His work integrates mathematics and structural design to create novel building solutions.

Publications include books on mathematical transformations, design philosophy, and material experimentation. These works have been reviewed in Architectural Record, RIBA Journal, and Journal of Mathematics and the Arts, among others. His research emphasizes deployable structures, composite materials, and geometry-driven sustainability.
