Robert Brackett is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Pratt Institute's School of Architecture and a K-12 Center Instructor. He co-directs the d.r.a.Lab (Center for Design Research in Architecture), focusing on transdisciplinary methods blending geometry, materials, and fabrication technology. His practice, Miscellaneous Projects LLC, explores innovative design-making through computational and traditional techniques.
Education: M.Arch from Columbia University GSAPP (2007), B.S.Arch from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2004).
Research interests include sustainable form-active structures, computational design, and pedagogical innovation. He has led projects in lightweight inflatable formwork for GFRC molds (funded by the Architecture League of New York) and transdisciplinary STEM education (NSF grants). His work emphasizes integrating digital tools with hands-on fabrication, addressing urban sustainability and cultural engagement.
Grants and Fellowships: 2022–2023 Architecture League of New York Grant for GFRC fabrication research; 2020–2022 Pratt Strategic Initiative funding for online design studio methods; and 2015–2020 COMICS research on architectural narratives via comics.
Labs/Teams: Co-leads d.r.a.Lab, collaborating with institutions like Columbia University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His work aligns with Innovation in Industry through geometrical control of material systems and digital fabrication advancements.
