Josef Woldense is an Assistant Professor in the Department of African American & African Studies at the University of Minnesota, with affiliated status in Political Science. He earned his PhD in Political Science from Indiana University. His research examines elite politics, authoritarian regimes, and political institutions through social network analysis, focusing primarily on African contexts.
Woldense's publications analyze political dynamics including regime transitions, coup mechanisms, legislative power structures, and historical governance patterns in Ethiopia. His 2024 work explores authoritarian persistence in post-Cold War Africa, while earlier research investigates legislative functions across regimes and imperial Ethiopian leadership strategies.
