معرفی
Jose-Luis Jimenez is a Distinguished Professor of Chemistry & Biochemistry and a Fellow of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado Boulder. He holds appointments in the College of Arts and Sciences and leads the Jimenez Group, focusing on aerosol chemistry, atmospheric processes, and disease transmission. His research integrates field measurements, instrument development (e.g., Aerosol Mass Spectrometer), and computational modeling.
Education: PhD in Mechanical Engineering from MIT (1999), postdoctoral work at Caltech and Aerodyne Research. He has secured over $25M in research funding and advised 10 PhD students, 5 MS students, and 18 postdocs.
Research Interests: Aerosol physics/chemistry, climate-air quality interactions, wildfire emissions, and airborne disease transmission. His work spans aircraft and ground-based field campaigns globally, including FIREX-AQ, KORUS-AQ, and ATom missions.
Key Achievements: Ranked top 10 in Geosciences citations (Web of Science), 525+ peer-reviewed papers, and 88,000+ citations (Google Scholar). Awards include the AGU Ascent Award (2012), Kenneth T. Whitby Award (2008), and NASA Group Achievement Awards (multiple). He pioneered studies on aerosol volatility, oxidation flow reactors, and airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2.
Outreach: Led global efforts to clarify airborne COVID-19 transmission, developed free online tools (e.g., aerosol transmission estimator), and advised governments and organizations on ventilation strategies. Maintains a prominent Twitter presence and co-founded the Aireamos Group for science communication in Spain/Latin America.
Labs/Teams: Jimenez Group develops advanced instruments (ToF-AMS) and models aerosol behavior. Collaborates with NASA, NOAA, and international agencies on field campaigns and climate studies.
