Jose Feijo

Jose Feijo is Professor of Cell Biology and affiliate faculty in Plant Science at the University of Maryland. His research integrates live-cell imaging, electrophysiology, and molecular genetics to study calcium signaling during pollen tube growth.

Research Focus: Feijo's lab develops genetically encoded biosensors to visualize ion fluxes during fertilization. Current projects examine how glutamate receptor-like channels (GLRs) coordinate growth oscillations and how peri-germ cell membranes facilitate gamete interactions.

Notable Work: His team pioneered vibrating probe techniques to map ion currents in growing pollen tubes and demonstrated the role of anion channels in cell wall assembly.
