Dr. José Blázquez is a Senior Lecturer in Media Production at Bournemouth University with over a decade of teaching experience across multiple institutions including the University of Nottingham and University of Valladolid. His research focuses on audience participation in digital media contexts, spanning transmedia storytelling, interactive media, and gaming practices.
His primary research examines how audiences engage with fictional worlds through participatory practices, technological interfaces, and transformative works. Specific interests include fan engagement, immersive storytelling, digital literacy development through gaming, and indigenous knowledge preservation through digital narratives.
Dr. Blázquez leads several research projects including 'Press Start' exploring educational applications of transformative gaming practices, and 'Digital Narratives of the Amazon' documenting indigenous Ecuadorian communities. He has secured funding from Arts Council England and AHRC, most notably for COVID Comics analyzing public health communication through social media comics.
He holds a PhD in Film and TV Studies from the University of Nottingham, an MA in Fiction in Film and TV from Ramon Llull University, and dual BAs in Theory of Literature and Fine Arts from the Universities of Granada and Salamanca.
