Jorrit Gosens

Jorrit Gosens is a Research Fellow at the Crawford School of Public Policy, Australian National University (ANU), within the Resources, Environment and Development Department. His work focuses on energy transitions, China's energy policy, and decarbonization strategies. He leads the Strategic Research Spoke ‘Energy Transitions’ at the Australian Centre on China in the World and manages the China Energy Portal, a key resource for translating Chinese energy policies and statistics.

Education: PhD in Environmental Economics & Management (Chinese Academy of Sciences) and MSc from Wageningen University. His research spans over a decade, emphasizing China’s renewable energy industry formation and global innovation systems in clean tech.

Research interests include renewable energy markets, resource trade dynamics (e.g., Australia-China coal and iron ore), and the impact of decarbonization on industries like green steel. Recent work explores offshore wind governance models in the Asia-Pacific, green metals strategies, and policy frameworks for low-carbon transitions.

Notable projects include a three-year ANU program analyzing green steel supply chains for Australia, China, and the region. He has contributed to policy consultations on green steel and low-carbon technology transitions, emphasizing Australia-China collaboration.

His publications analyze China’s post-COVID-19 stimulus, South-South clean energy trade dynamics, and CSP sector competitiveness. Key themes include technological catch-up mechanisms, energy security, and global innovation linkages in renewable sectors.
