Jorge Vieira's research centers on the intersection of media and culture, with a focus on digital communication, online communities, and social change. His work explores how digital technologies reshape social practices, identities, and cultural consumption. Key areas include online dating platforms like Tinder, digital piracy, fan cultures such as fandubbing, podcasting, media literacy, and generational media use. He employs qualitative and mixed methods to analyze user practices, media representations, and digital inequalities in Portugal and Europe.
His recent publications reveal a strong trend in digital media studies, particularly the sociology of online dating, participatory culture, and media innovation. Articles examine Tinder's social logic, podcasting as a new media form, online reading communities, and digital divides. His research often combines sociological theory with empirical analysis of digital platforms, contributing to debates on digital transformation and media literacy.
