Jorge Vidal is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Hubert Department of Global Health at Emory University. He holds adjunct faculty positions at Emory’s Population Biology, Ecology, and Evolution (PBEE) graduate program and the University of Sinaloa School of Medicine. He is also a Visiting Researcher at the CDC’s Respiratory Pathogens Branch. His research focuses on bacterial pathogens, particularly Streptococcus pneumoniae, with emphasis on antibiotic resistance, molecular epidemiology, and vaccine efficacy.
Education: PhD (Cellular Microbiology, 2006) and MSc (Microbiology, 2001) from Mexico’s National Polytechnic Institute, followed by postdoctoral training at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (2006–2009).
Research interests include pneumococcal pathogenesis, biofilm dynamics, and respiratory infections. His work has led to over 50 publications, with grants from NIH, BMGF, and pharmaceutical companies. He leads the Vidal Lab (website: vidalabemory.weebly.com), which investigates bacterial colonization, resistance mechanisms, and clinical interventions. Collaborative studies include analyzing pneumococcal serotype distribution in Latin America and the impact of environmental factors on infection risk.
Affiliations span academic and public health institutions, including roles at CDC and international graduate programs. His lab’s findings contribute to global health strategies for combating antibiotic resistance and improving vaccine deployment in vulnerable populations.
