Jordi Gascón is a Full Professor at the University of Barcelona's Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology. He specializes in tourism studies, rural development, and food systems, with a focus on Andean societies and political ecology. His research integrates anthropological fieldwork with policy analysis.
Key projects include the SUREST Erasmus+ project (2023–2026), studies on food provisioning during the pandemic, and initiatives promoting food sovereignty in Bolivia and Ecuador. He leads the FARO Observatory and collaborates with the CRITS research group.
His publications address topics like community-based tourism, food waste power dynamics, and tourism's socio-ecological impacts. Recent works include analyses of the 2022 Ecuadorian strike and Chayanovian frameworks for agritourism evaluation.
