Oriol Beltran Costa

Oriol Beltran Costa is a Full Professor at the University of Barcelona's Department of Social Anthropology. His research focuses on Environmental Anthropology, Political Ecology, and Conservation Anthropology with emphasis on protected areas governance, rural development, and tourism impacts. He leads the Grup de Recerca en Antropologia de les Crisis i les Transformacions Contemporànies (CRITS) and collaborates with the Red de Antropología Ambiental.

Recent projects include analyzing conservation initiatives in the Maestrazgo-Els Ports region, studying ski resort policies in the Catalan Pyrenees, and investigating traditional salt production in Peru's Maras. His work bridges anthropological theory with applied research in environmental policy and heritage management.

Beltran has directed over 15 research projects funded by agencies like the Spanish Ministry of Science (e.g., PID2021-125132NA-I00 for rural resistance studies) and the Catalan Government. His publications explore themes such as landscape design, commons theory, and the intersection of conservation with neoliberal development models.
