Jordan R. Youngblood is an Associate Professor and Associate Department Chair in the English Department at Eastern Connecticut State University. His research focuses on digital humanities, particularly the intersections of video games with gender, sexuality, and queer theory. He holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Florida and an M.A. from the University of Mississippi. His work explores participatory fan culture, level and narrative design, and critical gaming literacy.
Dr. Youngblood’s research interests include digital culture, rhetoric, and the application of queer theory to analyze video game narratives and mechanics. His publications address topics such as homonationalism in Mass Effect, eco-apocalyptic themes in Final Fantasy VI, and queering failure in Metal Gear Solid 2. He teaches courses on interactive design, technology and culture, and identity and power dynamics.
His articles span interdisciplinary fields, blending queer studies with game analysis to critique societal constructs through digital media. Though no scientific awards are listed, his contributions highlight innovative approaches to understanding video games as cultural artifacts. He currently serves as Associate Department Chair, contributing to academic leadership in the English program.
