Joowon Suh

Joowon Suh is a Senior Lecturer in Korean and Director of the Korean Language Program at Columbia University's Department of East Asian Languages & Cultures. She also coordinates the EALAC Language Programs. Prior to Columbia (since 2017), she held senior roles in Korean language education at Princeton University. Her research focuses on Korean linguistics, language pedagogy, discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, and interlanguage pragmatics.

She contributed to revising the KLEAR Integrated Korean Textbook Series and authored/co-authored its workbook series. She led task forces for national Korean language learning standards (2012, 2015) and served as AATK President (2018-21). She currently reviews for journals like L2 Journal and Journal of Less Commonly Taught Languages. Her educational background includes an EdD and EdM in Applied Linguistics from Columbia University's Teachers College (2007, 2000).

Her publications span multiliteracies in language learning, lingua franca communication dynamics, and Korean language curriculum design. She actively participates in editorial boards for The Education of Korean Language and Language and Information Society.
