Joonhee Lee is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry, University of California, Irvine. His research focuses on surface physics, vibrational spectroscopy, and nanotechnology, with expertise in molecular imaging using advanced scanning probe techniques such as tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS). His work bridges physics, chemistry, and engineering to probe molecular-scale phenomena with unprecedented resolution.
- Employment History: Postdoctoral Researcher (UCI, 2006–2010), Project Scientist (UCI, 2010–2017), Researcher (UCI, 2017–2019).
- Education: Ph.D. in Surface Physics from Yonsei University (2006), B.S. from Yonsei University (1997).
His research interests include vibrational mapping of single molecules, molecular force mapping via functionalized tips, and time-resolved vibrational spectroscopy. Key achievements include developing a single-molecule scanning electrometer and advancing TERS to resolve submolecular electrostatic fields. He has been recognized with awards such as the CASTL Lifetime Achievement Award and the William F. Meggers Award.
Publications span over 20 peer-reviewed articles, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to nanoscale imaging and molecular dynamics. Ongoing work explores plasmonic tip engineering and real-time molecular dynamics under extreme conditions.
