Jonny Michel

Jonny Michel is a lyric tenor, voice instructor, and choral director at Trinity Western University's School of the Arts, Media + Culture, Department of Music. He teaches private voice lessons (MUSA 110/111, 210/211, 310/311, 410/411) and specializes in classical, operatic, musical theatre, jazz, soul, pop, and contemporary worship styles. His pedagogical focus emphasizes vocal development, musical skill, and artistic expression.

• Education: Bachelor of Education (Simon Fraser University, 2015), Bachelor of Music in Opera (University of British Columbia, 2014), Bachelor of Arts in Communication (Honours) and History (Minor) (Simon Fraser University, 2008)

As a performer, Jonny has extensive experience as a soloist with ensembles like the UBC Orchestra, Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra, and Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir. He performed the Evangelist in Bach’s St. John Passion (2018, 2023) and sang with Phoenix Chamber Choir (2015-2018) and Musica Intima (2021 debut). His research interests align with vocal pedagogy and choral performance traditions.
