Dr. Joni Boyd is a Professor of Exercise Science and Coaching Minor Advisor at Winthrop University's College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences. She holds over 20 certifications in exercise science and nutrition and serves as South Carolina State Director for the National Strength & Conditioning Association. Her research examines functional movement, coaching pedagogy, warm-up protocols, exercise cohesion, and college student wellness.
Boyd's interdisciplinary research spans strength training outcomes, psychological aspects of exercise enjoyment, stress management through leisure activities, and the impact of spirituality on health behaviors. Recent studies investigate how sensory stimuli like music affect workout experiences and the efficacy of different resistance training modalities.
Her work with college populations focuses on optimizing physical and mental health outcomes through evidence-based exercise interventions, including yoga, HIIT, and recreational programming. Research frequently addresses gender-specific physiological responses and practical applications for athletic performance enhancement.
