Jonghwan Lee is an Associate Professor of Engineering and Assistant Professor of Brain Science at Brown University. He leads the Lee Lab for Biomedical Optics and Neuroengineering, focusing on medical photonics, neural engineering, and artificial intelligence. His research integrates advanced imaging techniques with AI to address clinical challenges in neuroengineering and biomedical diagnostics.
Dr. Lee holds a BS and PhD in Physics and Neural Engineering from Seoul National University. He previously worked at Harvard Medical School as an instructor and postdoctoral fellow. His honors include the NIH K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award.
Key research areas include optical coherence tomography (OCT), cerebral blood flow dynamics, and nanoparticle-based therapy. His lab develops technologies for non-invasive imaging and neurostimulation, with applications in stroke recovery, Alzheimer’s research, and retinal disorders.
Dr. Lee teaches courses such as ENGN 0510 (Electricity and Magnetism) and ENGN 1930B (Biomedical Optics). He leads interdisciplinary projects funded by NIH grants (R00, R01) and collaborates with institutions like the Carney Institute for Brain Science and Brown’s Center for Biomedical Engineering.
