Dr. Lee pioneers advanced 3D biomedical imaging techniques to visualize physiological and clinical mechanisms through non-invasive and biopsy approaches. His research centers on three innovations: rapid tissue transparency preparation using non-toxic methods, efficient image acquisition from transparent tissues, and advanced image processing for enhanced resolution. He developed ADAPT-3D (Accelerated Deep Adaptable Processing of Tissue for 3-Dimensional Fluorescence Tissue Imaging), which achieves tissue transparency in one week while preserving morphology—dramatically faster than conventional methods. This enables unprecedented visualization of microvascular structures in organs like brain, heart, and intestines for diseases including Crohn's and cerebral amyloid angiopathy. His work with Scientific Volume Imaging Huygens optimizes deconvolution techniques for deep-tissue imaging up to 500 microns, delivering near-confocal resolution at minimal cost.
