Guosong Hong is an Assistant Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University, affiliated with the Neurosciences Institute. His research bridges materials science and neuroscience, focusing on developing novel neuroengineering tools such as ultrasound, infrared, and radiofrequency-based neural interfaces for non-invasive brain interrogation and manipulation. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from Stanford University (2014) and completed postdoctoral studies at Harvard University.
Key research interests include mechanoluminescent nanotransducers, NIR-II imaging, and bioinspired neural interfaces. His work has led to advancements in optogenetics, deep-brain stimulation, and tissue transparency techniques. Hong has received prestigious awards including the NIH K99/R00 Award, MIT TR35, and NSF CAREER Award. His lab, the Hong Lab, pioneers innovations in neurotechnology and biomedical engineering.
Recent publications highlight breakthroughs in sono-optogenetics, wireless neuromodulation, and light delivery systems for deep-tissue applications. Hong’s interdisciplinary approach integrates materials science with clinical neuroscience to address challenges in neural interface design and brain machine interfaces.
