Jong-Won Min is the Director of the School of Social Work and a Professor at San Diego State University (SDSU). He holds affiliations with the College of Health and Human Services and leads initiatives such as the Center for Excellence in Aging & Longevity and the Driving Under the Influence Program (DUIP).
Educated at the University of California, Los Angeles (Ph.D., 2001), the University of Calgary (MSW, 1993), and Yonsei University (B.A., 1989), Min specializes in gerontology, health disparities, and culturally competent social work. His research focuses on aging populations, mental health service utilization, and long-term care decision-making among diverse groups, particularly Asian Americans and Koreans.
Key professional contributions include grants totaling millions, such as the Alzheimer’s-related Resource Centers (AD-RCMAR) grant ($3.8M) and leadership in the CSU Aging Initiative. He teaches courses in aging, cultural pluralism, and research methods. Awards include two Outstanding Faculty Awards from SDSU (2013, 2017).
Min’s publications address topics like health inequalities, cognitive trajectories in older Koreans, and K6/K10 psychometric validation. He has advised numerous master’s theses and serves on editorial boards and policy committees, including the Live Well Center for Innovation & Leadership and the San Diego County Elder Abuse Council.
