Stacy Dunkerley, PhD, MSW, is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at San Diego State University (SDSU), part of the College of Health and Human Services. She holds a PhD in Social Welfare from the University of Kansas (2021), an MSW from Wichita State University (2006), and a BSW from Kansas State University (2001). Her research focuses on child welfare systems, trauma-informed practices, parent engagement, and anti-racism initiatives in social work education and practice.
Professional experience includes over 15 years in child welfare, including roles as Lead Trainer for Parent Management Training (2015–2018) and supervisor for intensive permanency projects (2011–2015). She has led multiple funded research projects, including a 2023 SDSU Seed Grant exploring foster care program implementation. Awards include the 2019 Mignot Award for exceptional BSW student support and a 2023 research fellowship.
Teaching responsibilities include BSW/MSW courses on child welfare practice and capstone seminars. She serves on SDSU committees addressing anti-racism, DEI, and MSW admissions. Community service includes roles on the San Diego County Blue Ribbon Commission on Foster Care and Southern California Workforce Development Committee.
