Jonathon Stillman

Jonathon Stillman is an Adjunct Professor at UC Berkeley and faculty member in the Department of Biology within the College of Science and Engineering at San Francisco State University (SFSU). His laboratory physically operates from SFSU's Hensill Hall, investigating physiological responses of marine organisms to climate change stressors including ocean acidification, heat waves, and hypoxia across species like porcelain crabs, coccolithophores, and invasive clams.

His integrative research spans ecosystem to genomic levels, combining in vivo physiology measurements (cardiac activity, metabolic rates), protein biochemistry (proteomics, enzymology), and functional genomics (RNA-seq, transcriptome profiling). Key projects examine synergistic effects of multiple stressors on marine physiology, thermal adaptation mechanisms, and near-future impacts on aquatic insects, with publications consistently addressing climate change consequences since 2010.
