Jonathan Zippin is an Associate Professor of Dermatology at Weill Cornell Medical College, where he has been on faculty since 2018. His research focuses on fundamental signaling pathways responsible for cellular growth in the skin, with particular emphasis on the role of soluble adenylyl cyclase (sAC) in melanocyte biology, pigmentation, and skin cancer development. Unlike other adenylyl cyclases, sAC is present throughout the cell including the nucleus and mitochondria. His laboratory investigates how sAC signaling affects melanosomal pH, melanin synthesis, and the development of skin conditions including psoriasis, verruca vulgaris, and skin cancer. A significant portion of his work examines how dysregulation of sAC contributes to melanomagenesis and how targeting this pathway might yield novel therapeutic approaches for pigmentary disorders and melanoma.
