معرفی
Jonathan Waltho is a Professor of NMR Spectroscopy at the School of Chemistry, University of Manchester, with a joint appointment in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the University of Sheffield. His research focuses on protein conformation dynamics, enzyme catalysis mechanisms, and amyloid formation. He employs advanced techniques like NMR, cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, and rapid kinetics to study protein behavior under diverse conditions.
Education:
- PhD in Chemistry, University of Cambridge (1987)
- BSc (Hons) in Chemistry, University of Durham (1983)
Research Interests: Enzyme catalysis of phosphate and methyl group transfer, protein folding/misfolding, intrinsically disordered proteins, and neurodegenerative disease therapeutics. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and innovation.
Awards:
- Gibson Professor of Biophysics (2009–present)
- Lister Institute Research Fellow (1996–2002)
Grants & Collaborations: Supported by UK research councils and the pharmaceutical sector. Projects include enzyme catalysis mechanisms and biotherapeutic development. Active on committees like the MRC Advisory Board and Wellcome Trust panels.
Labs & Teams: Leads a multi-disciplinary lab at The University of Manchester, collaborating with institutions globally on structural biology and biophysics projects.
