Jonathan Tyler

Associate Professor Jonathan Tyler is affiliated with the University of Adelaide's School of Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences within the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology. He holds a PhD from University College London and has research experience at the Universities of Tokyo, Oxford, and Melbourne.

His research focuses on palaeoclimatology and isotope geochemistry, using chemical tracers in sediments to study past climate changes. Key techniques include oxygen/silicon isotopes in biogenic silica, carbon/nitrogen isotope analysis of chlorins/GDGTs, and clumped isotope palaeothermometry. Applications span lake, marine, and terrestrial environments, with projects in Antarctica, Australia, and Japan. He is set to lead an ARC Future Fellowship (2024) examining climate variability in southern Australia over the last 2000 years.

Dr. Tyler emphasizes mentorship, having supervised over 30 Honours and 10 PhD students. His work bridges academia and policy, informing environmental management strategies for bushfire risks and vegetation dynamics.
