Jonathan T. King is an Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at Pomona College since 2009. He directs the King Lab, focusing on stress modulation of learning, memory, and synaptic plasticity. His work bridges neurophysiology, neuroendocrinology, and pharmacology.
- Ph.D. in Neurobiology and Behavior from Cornell University
- B.S. in Biology from California State University, San Bernardino
His research examines stress-induced neuroplastic changes, depressive-like behaviors in rats, and neuroactive properties of compounds like ginsenosides. Using electrophysiology and behavioral assays (e.g., Barnes maze), his lab investigates how stress and antidepressants affect hippocampal function.
Recent publications focus on sex differences in stress response, environmental enrichment as a therapeutic strategy, and ginsenoside effects on synaptic plasticity. His work reveals stress impairs hippocampal plasticity, with partial rescue via environmental interventions.
- Howard Hughes Medical Institute Postdoctoral Grant (2007-2009)
- NIH Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology Training Grant (2000-2005)
King supervises undergraduate researchers who contribute to studies on stress, memory, and neuroplasticity. His lab at Pomona College emphasizes hands-on student involvement in all stages of neuroscience research.
