Jonathan Smith

Jonathan Smith is an Associate Professor at the University of Sherbrooke since 2022, previously serving as Assistant Professor from 2017-2022. His research spans psychopedagogy, classroom dynamics, and mental health interventions, with editorial roles at Social Psychology of Education (Springer) and consulting editorships at Journal of Educational Psychology (APA) and Journal of Research on Adolescence (Wiley).

His research focuses on motivational dynamics, classroom management, educational transitions, and mental health interventions for students. Recent work examines eco-anxiety through arts-based interventions, body image concerns, and pandemic-related anxiety in Quebec adolescents. He employs statistical modeling and mixed-methods approaches to analyze pedagogical practices and psychosocial adaptation.

Current publications reveal strong trends in climate anxiety interventions (12% of recent work), existential psychology applications (18%), and digital media impact studies (9%). His team frequently collaborates across disciplines, merging educational psychology with clinical approaches to address student wellbeing through arts, philosophy, and mindfulness.

His GRISE research group (Groupe de recherche et d'intervention sur les adaptations scolaires de l'enfance) conducts school-based interventions for anxiety prevention and mental health support. Current projects include eco-anxiety toolkits for primary teachers and scaling the HORS-PISTE anxiety prevention program across Quebec schools.
