Dr. Jonathan Rotondo-McCord is a retired Associate Professor in the Department of History at Xavier University of Louisiana. He specializes in medieval Germany, social and church history, and comparative feudal structures. He holds a Ph.D. in Medieval Studies from Yale University (1991) and an M.A. in Medieval Studies from Wesleyan University (1983).
His research focuses on medieval European institutions, particularly property rights and the intersection of religion and power. He has conducted extensive research in Germany, supported by two DAAD Fellowships for stays in Bonn. At Xavier, he contributed to multimedia development for world history education and taught courses on ancient Mediterranean history, medieval Europe, Latin, and the history of medicine.
His publications include seminal articles on medieval burial practices and episcopal power dynamics, with ongoing book projects on property in medieval Germany and the politics of dead bodies in antiquity and the Middle Ages.
Awardees of his DAAD Fellowships reflect his scholarly contributions. He has advised no formally listed students but has engaged in curriculum development and research initiatives.
