Dr. Jonathan Packham is a Departmental Lecturer in Music at the University of Oxford's Faculty of Music, a Postdoctoral Research Assistant on the 'Cyborg Soloists' project at Royal Holloway, University of London, and a Stipendiary Lecturer in Music at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford. He holds a DPhil in Music from St Hilda’s College (University of Oxford, 2021), supported by an AHRC DTP studentship.
His research focuses on experimental music, sonic arts, and the integration of VR technologies into live performance. He explores interdisciplinary collaborations, particularly in technologically-driven contemporary music, and has published in Leonardo, TEMPO, and the International Journal of Performance Arts and Digital Media. In 2020, he won the EMPRES Award for Experimental Electronic Music for his collaborative work FISSION.
Recent projects include the 2024 co-convened conference 'Creative Machines: Technology and Collaborative Practice in Contemporary Music' at Royal Holloway and the development of live-generated video scores using VR headsets (e.g., SECRET ANIMALS, 2019). He also composes experimental works such as ghost (2024) and pavilion lovesong number 1 (2021).
