Jonathan Mellor is an Associate Teaching Professor and Co-Chairperson of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's College of Engineering. He specializes in water resources, environmental engineering, and sustainability, teaching courses in fluid mechanics, climate resilience engineering, and civil engineering projects.
Education:
- PhD in Civil Engineering, University of Virginia (2013)
- MS, Michigan Technological University (2009)
- BS, The College of William and Mary (2001)
Dr. Mellor's research focuses on climate resiliency, water and sanitation systems, coupled human-engineered systems, engineering for human rights, and life-cycle analysis. His work examines how to improve resilience to climate extremes both in New England and internationally. He has developed innovative systems approaches to reduce restoration times for electric utility companies and to study climate change impacts on water security and its effects on health and food security in low-income countries.
His recent publications demonstrate expertise in water treatment technologies, disaster recovery modeling, and climate change impacts on public health. These works span environmental engineering, civil infrastructure resilience, and global health applications, with a strong emphasis on practical solutions to climate-related challenges.
Dr. Mellor serves as Faculty Advisor for the Engineers Without Borders student chapter and advises students on Senior Design Projects. He previously taught at the University of Connecticut, was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Yale University, and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Uganda.
